Colin's story continued..
It is wonderful to hear how Colin has flourished in these last ten months. He is extremely happy in his role and feels that the placement found for him suits him down to the ground. He has found the team with whom he works to be very friendly, and we understand that they think the world of Colin, too. Colin himself explained that two years ago, he would have refused to speak on the phone due to his lack of confidence in his speech.
Having been in employment for the last 10 months, Colin is now a different person. His self-confidence has returned and a lovely illustration of this is that the 30 minute interview with Colin for this very case study took place over the telephone.
And what of the Company that Colin works for, how do they view the process of recruiting Colin? Angela is Colin's office manager and she talks of Colin with huge warmth. Angela explains that initially Colin was employed as an admin worker and a number of reasonable adjustments were made to enable Colin to perform the role well. In the early days Angela was concerned that they may be asking Colin to take on too much, but within a few weeks it became clear that if anything Colin was beginning to take on tasks that were not expected of him.
Angela sees Colin as being a ‘wonderful person' that her team are fortunate to be working with. She is delighted with the ethos and experience of placing disabled candidates, and finds the whole process extremely fulfilling. With both Colin and Angela speaking so highly of their individual experience in this case, it is hard to find any other conclusion than this has been a highly successful placement, and all the signs are that the future for Colin is looking very positive.
